The project

The position is available within a BMG-funded project to investigate vaccine candidates against SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19. Within this project, immunogenicity of various experimental vaccine candicates and application methods will be examined in animal models:
  • Generation, purification and characterization of viral vaccine vectors
  • Immunization of laboratory animals and characterization of induced local and systemic immune responses
  • The successful candidate will establish an experimental aerosol application model for vaccines
  • Evaluation of vaccine efficacy in challenge models with SARS-CoV-2
  • Presentation of the results at scientific conferences and in publications


Our Essential criteria for applying

  • Master's degree or equivalent degree in a natural science
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in immunology, virology or related biomedical sciences
  • Expertise in immunology, specifically B- and T-cell responses against viral infections
  • Experience and certified qualification in animal experimentation (FELASA B, EU Function A/C/D or equivalent international qualification)
  • Training in working with BSL2 pathogens required
  • Experience with BSL3 pathogens desirable
  • First author publication(s) in internationally respected, peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • High motivation to develop a research project independently
  • Good work organization skills and ability to work under pressure - We are looking for a team player
  • High level of proficiency in English (proof through TOEFL certificate, if applicable)

The successful candidate will be employed until 31.12.2022. Part-time working is possible in principle. The payband is E 14 TVöD (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst, Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Public Service), Part III of Annex 1 of TVEntgO Bund (Tarifvertrag über die Entgeltordnung des Bundes, Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Pay System of the Federal German Public Service). The assignment to a payband is made based on the consideration of your individual professional experience. Disabled candidates will be given preference if their skills and qualifications are equivalent to those of non-disabled candidates.
